If your child is about to begin a kids soccer program like Grasshopper Soccer, you might be wondering what they need to bring. Whether it’s their very first session or a return to the field, having the right items packed can make a big difference to their comfort and enjoyment.
Grasshopper Soccer is one of Australia’s most trusted and fun-focused soccer programs for kids aged 2 to 12. Designed to build confidence through play, our sessions are non-competitive, safe, and welcoming for children of all skill levels. To help families feel ready from day one, we’ve created this simple guide on what to pack for a successful start.
Why Packing Matters in a Kids Soccer Program
When children are properly prepared, they’re more likely to engage in the session, feel confident, and have fun. Coming to a session with the right gear reduces stress, supports independence, and ensures your child can focus on learning and play—not on missing items or feeling uncomfortable.
This checklist is tailored for any kids soccer program and especially helpful for new Grasshopper Soccer families.
What to Pack for Kids Soccer Program
1. Comfortable Clothing
Your child doesn’t need any professional or expensive sportswear. Just dress them in clothes that are easy to run, jump, and stretch in—such as a t-shirt and shorts or leggings. On cooler days, add a jumper or hoodie that can be removed easily during activity.
2. Closed-Toe Runners
Soccer boots are not necessary in our programs. All your child needs is a pair of closed-toe sports shoes or runners with good grip. These shoes are safe and practical for both grass and synthetic surfaces.
3. Water Bottle (Clearly Labelled)
Kids stay active in our sessions, and hydration is key. Make sure your child has a full water bottle with their name written on it. This helps avoid mix-ups and encourages them to drink regularly during breaks.
4. Hat or Cap for Sun Protection
If your child’s kids soccer program is held outdoors, sun safety is important. A hat or cap can help protect them from sun exposure. Applying sunscreen before the session is also recommended.
5. Grasshopper Soccer Shirt (if purchased)
If you’ve purchased an official Grasshopper Soccer shirt, make sure your child wears it to their session. It helps them feel part of the team and adds to the excitement of being involved. If you haven’t bought one yet, any comfortable shirt will be just fine until you do.
Optional but Helpful Extras 6. Spare Clothes
Especially for younger players, accidents and messy play happen. A spare set of clothes—packed in their bag—can come in handy for spills or wet grass.
7. Healthy Nut-Free Snack
After an hour of activity, some children may want a snack. Pack something simple and nut-free, like fruit or a muesli bar. Avoid anything that may pose an allergy risk to other children in the group.
Keep it Simple—and Label Everything
In kids soccer programs, kids often forget where they left their bottle, jumper, or hat. Labelling everything ensures that any misplaced items can be easily returned. It’s a small step that goes a long way in keeping things organised.
Set Your Child Up for a Positive Soccer Experience
Joining a kids soccer program is a great way for your child to stay active, make friends, and develop physical skills in a safe and supportive environment. At Grasshopper Soccer, we believe that preparation is part of the experience. By packing the essentials and making sure your child feels ready, you’ll help set them up for success, both on and off the field.
